+ How many nappies do you recommend for full time use?

Some families like to build and prepare their cloth nappies and accessories before baby arrives, other families build and customise their stash as their little grows or budget allows.

We cater to all and welcome you to join cloth nappies in to your routine when it feels right for you.

Our recommended full-time allowance is as below:

  • Nappy Covers: 15-24
  • Inserts: 24-30
  • Boosters: 5-10
  • Trifolds: 4-6
  • Cloth Wipes: 10-20

Wet bags for Out-and-about: Trio (Small, Medium, Large).

Keep in mind some circumstances that will influence best quantities for your stash:

  • Your own weather and seasonality, for example those in colder climates or living in apartment blocks with limited sunlight access, may been to have extra inners for security.
  • More than 1 child in cloth, will require more than the above requirements, but you can interchange nappies between siblings.
  • If your child goes to day-care you will likely want to ensure a separate stash for practical rotation and naming.
  • The higher the rotation (e.g. the smaller the quantity you have) will mean higher wear and tear on your nappies. So building a healthy size is important for the longevity of your nappies.
+ What are day time Boosters?

Our bamboo cotton cloth nappy boosters are the perfect addition to our cloth nappies, adding an extra 4 layers of absorbency. When used in conjunction with our cloth nappy inserts and Trifolds, boosters provide a great option for heavy wetters, nap time or overnight use.

Comprised of three layers of absorbent bamboo cotton fleece and a microfleece top layer that wicks away moisture, our bamboo nappy boosters will help to keep your baby dry. Contoured to provide a snug fit around your baby’s inner thighs and minimise any unnecessary bulk in the nappy.

Refer to Boosting video below.

Available in 6-Packs or 12-Packs via the Website - Booster Packs

+ What are night time Trifolds?

Our cotton bamboo trifold inserts are the perfect addition to our cloth nappies, adding an extra 9 layers of absorbency when folded. Ideal for heavy wetters, nap time or overnight use. Our trifold nappy inserts can be used to replace our cloth nappy inserts or in addition to inserts for added absorbency. Snaps are included at either end of our trifold inserts to secure to our nappy covers.

Made from soft and absorbent bamboo cotton fleece our trifolds will help to keep your baby dry. Also great for extra absorption in our nappy pants.

Refer to Boosting video below.

+ What is the positive environmental impact of using cloth nappies and nappy pants?

2 billion nappies alone are disposed of annually. 450,000 tonnes of waste are dumped in Australian landfill each year as a result of disposable nappies, baby wipes, disposable sanitary pads, tampons, incontinence pads and breast pads.

When combined with feminine sanitary pads, tampons, incontinence products, and such hygiene products, this figure equates to more than 7 million items per day, taking around 500 years to break down.

+ How do I wash my nappies?

Please feel free to follow our recommended washing steps below:
Bare & Boho Cloth Nappy Washing Guide

Chunky Solids:
Hand-rinse and dry-pail end of each day where chunky soiling is evident.
Shake/scrape/rinse solid waste off inserts in to toilet. Use soft silicone scrub brush to remove waste off inserts, shells and elastics.

Use soap bar such as our ‘Tuffy’ to gently agitate any stains. Squeeze water out and place in the dry-pail, until machine wash day.

Pre-Rinse Cycle:
Every 1-2 Days
30-45 Min. 40-60 degrees. Designed to remove excess soiling. (1/2 dose recommended detergent for your machine). Select cycle which removes soiled water. Dry-pail if not following wash with the main cycle immediately.

Main-Heavy Wash Cycle:
Every 2-3 days
2-3 Hour (Cottons/Heavy Duty). 40-60 degrees. Use recommended dosage of detergent for your load size. Double dosage for recommended eco-detergents.

Drying:
Line dry in direct sunlight. Tumble-dry or portable clothes airer suitable (excluding nappy shells, shade dry only. Do not tumble-dry shells or place in direct sunlight as this can cause damage long term and void warranty.) *Before drying, stretch all wet inserts to maximum shape.

Washing Tips:
  • Dry-pail: Open lid storage bucket/basket featuring holes all around sides for maximum air ow. Kept dry, no soaking necessary unlike traditional cloth nappies.
  • For ideal agitation, ensure machine is loosely loaded fully when dry (or equates to being 2/3 full once wet.) Smaller household laundry items (excluding towels) are needed to help bulk the load. *Choose light coloured laundry items.
  • Avoid highly perfumed or acidic detergents containing citrus or phosphates.
  • Avoid detergents containing fabric softeners, optical brighteners or chlorine bleach. Usage will void your warranty.
  • Avoid nappy balms containing zinc or petroleum unless using a reusable/disposable liner.
+ How do I dry my nappies?

Line dry in direct sunlight is always the most sustainable option, however we understand this not always practical for those in colder climates, rainy seasons or apartments.

Tumble-dry or portable clothes airer suitable for Nappy inners, wipes and trifolds. (Nappy Shells excluded, unless tumbled on delicate to “finish” them off).

Do not tumble-dry shells or place in direct sunlight as this can cause damage long term and void warranty.

Before drying, stretch all wet nappy inners to maximum shape.

+ How do I store my child’s soiled nappies?

Dry-pailing is the modern solution to storing your nappies once removed from bub’s bottom.

A dry-pail is simply, an open lid storage bucket/basket featuring holes all around sides for maximum air flow.

The goal is your nappies are kept as dry and aerated as possible between removal from bub and washing day. So no soaking is necessary, unlike traditional cloth nappies of our fore-generations.

Available in multi colourways (19L dry pail) via the website - Strucket Nappy Bucket

+ Extra Washing Tips?

For ideal agitation, ensure machine is loosely loaded fully when dry (or equates to being 2/3 full once wet.) Smaller household laundry items (excluding towels) are needed to help bulk the load. *Choose light coloured laundry items.

Avoid highly perfumed or acidic detergents containing citrus or phosphates.

Avoid detergents containing fabric softeners, optical brighteners or chlorine bleach. Usage will void your warranty.

Avoid nappy balms containing zinc or petroleum unless using a reusable/disposable liner.

Long term use of cold (<40 degrees Celcius) and higher temperatures (>60 degrees Celcius) on PUL can decrease lifespan and will void your warranty.

+ Pre-washing my nappies – when, how and why?

Our natural fibre inserts require washing before use, to increase absorbency and release any natural oils. So once you have received your brand new nappies, we recommend following the below steps before use.

Option 1: Soak items overnight in water, followed by main wash.
2-3 hour cycle (Cottons/Heavy Duty), 40 degrees.

Option 2: 3-5x Main wash cycles.
2-3 hour cycle (Cottons/Heavy Duty) 40 degrees. Detergent needed for first cycle only. Don’t dry in between washes.

Stretch: Once washed and before drying, stretch all inserts to maximum shape by pulling out gusset aps and ends. Slight shrinkage with the natural fibre inserts will occur. Stretching when wet, and before drying, is vital.

+ What inserts are in my ALDI Nappies?

Your Aldi nappy includes:

1x Bamboo-cotton inserts (with stay-dry top layer) in each nappy.

Should you be needing to increase your stash of inserts once you are in flow of usage, we have available 2 options for insert fabrics on our website. These include our Organic hemp-cotton “Eco Warrior” inserts or the Bamboo-cotton with microfleece lining “Stay-Dry” inserts.

Inserts can be expected to be changed every 2 hours minimum, unless adding extra absorption.

If you are requiring longer periods between changing- such as long naps, overnight, or you simply have an older heavy wetting toddler- than adding extra absorptive inners such as our Boosters or Trifolds, is the next step.

You can purchase these in their own value packs via the website, allowing you to customise your stash to your needs as your little one grows.

+ What other accessories will I need alongside my cloth nappies?

We have a designer curation of reusable cloth accessories designed to be used alongside your nappies for your little one, including:

Reusable Cloth Baby Wipes and spray bottle
These include 10x Washable wipes and a handy spray bottle to spray-and-wipe your little one’s bottom for a sustainable way of changing nappies. Wipes are then washed with nappies and reused!
