Bare and Boho Cloth Nappy Washing Guide preview

+ How Many Cloth Nappy Inserts Will I Need?

It depends if you are using cloth part-time, full time during the day, or full time both day and night.

We recommend a minimum stash of 6-12 nappies (covers and inserts) for casual or intermittent use.

For full-time use, it is recommended to have a stash of 24-30 cloth nappy inserts which can be used in a rotation within 15-24 Covers.

The average time for changing is recommended between 2-4 hours. If you are wanting to achieve longer time-frames between changing, adding a booster or trifold will ensure 4-12 hours.

By boosting as per above, you will have fewer changing times throughout the day and night, and therefore you can balance a lower quantity of cloth inserts with a mix of boosters (minimum 5 -10 boosters) and trifolds (minimum 2-6 trifolds).

Check out our boosting guide for heavy wetters and nighttime arrangements.

+ Do the Cloth Nappy Inserts Fit Into Both Cover Types - Wipeable & Softcover?

Yes - absolutely our bamboo and hemp inserts snap into both our wipeable nappy cover and soft nappy cover.

As the wipeable cover has a water-resistant inner, you are likely to get away with more insert changes before having to change the cover altogether. Simply pop your cloth nappy inserts into a wet bag if you're out and about or in a dry pail if you are home ready for your next wash.

+ Are Cloth Nappy Inserts All That I Need?

While our reusable nappy inserts are super absorbent, all babies are different and it may take a little time to get the perfect set-up. For heavy wetters, additional absorption might be needed. If you notice your little one’s nappy is leaking, then boosters are the perfect solution.

For nighttime use, to keep bub dry and happy right through, a booster and trifold combination will do the trick. For very heavy wetters, you can use an insert, trifold nappy insert and nappy booster for max absorption.

+ Which Cloth Nappy Insert Material Should I Use?

Both the bamboo and hemp inserts are equally as absorbent and durable. The difference is that the hemp nappy insert features natural and less processed fibres and so comes at a slightly higher cost.

Our bamboo nappy inserts require extensive processing to convert to a fibre and feature a synthetic microfleece layer. They are more affordable and the microfleece top layer will keep bub feeling dry as it wicks away moisture.

+ Which Insert Material Is Best For Heavy Wetters?

Due to the layering and design, both the bamboo and hemp insert selections are very much equal. The recommended timeframe for changing is 2-4 hours depending on your little one.

Hemp is a natural fibre that is known to absorb lots of fluid. However, there is no stay-dry layer featured due to no synthetics included in this variant meaning the 4th layer is an added layer of hemp fleece.

So the difference is due to their functionality.

Should you be seeking a solid solution for a heavy wetting baby or toddler, we recommend adding a booster to either of the bamboo or hemp inserts. The booster provides extra layering for absorption.

Should you need further boosting, due to your little one outwetting the above options in your desired timeframe, we recommend replacing the insert and booster combination with one of our 9-layer trifold nappy inserts.

The trifold is the ultimate in absorption and can be worn underneath or over the top of a booster or insert.

    Love these inserts

I love these nappy inserts. I use them with the wipeable covers and it's so convenient that I only need to change the insert. They're still soft after many washes.

    Reusable Cloth Inserts - Great

Bought these for my Grandson. I had already bought some sets from Aldi. Mainly because I hate using disposable nappies. But they are better than I expected and daughter-in-law loves them too.

    Love them

My baby used to have nappy rash all the iTunes even when using cream and different nappy brand. Until I started clothes and the bare and boho bamboo insert. Since then no rash at all and happy bum

    Love the hemp!

I found my bamboo inserts took quite a long time to dry. The hemp seems to be just as thirsty but dries a lot quicker. I've since purchased boosters because my daughter became a heavy wetter. Love the snap and wipe system.
