Sustainable Packaging
Here at Bare and Boho, our goal is to incorporate sustainability in all aspects of our workplace. From choosing the fabrics we use for our products, to how we store them in our warehouse, to how they arrive at your doorstep.
We dedicate hours of research to find new and improved ways of implementing positive change. There will always be innovation and new technology around sustainable packaging, and we as a team are committed to always seeking better alternatives.
While more sustainable packaging options come at a higher time and monetary cost compared to standard packaging, it’s important that we support those companies and manufacturers who are supplying the marketplace with better solutions.
Check out how we are making eco-friendly changes in our warehouse and packaging.
Compostable Satchels
Who doesn't love finding new things to add to your home compost? We do! Our compostable satchels are certified through the Australiasian Bioplastics Australia Standards (AS5810) and are a part of Certified B Corporation. They are made from plants such as corn starch, Polylactide (waste corn and other plants), and Polybutyrate Adipate Terephthalate (oil that is required for the break down process and leaves no toxic residue behind), and are suitable for both home and commercial composts. Once you receive your goodies from us, just throw it in your compost to break down (3-6months) or bury it in the soil of your garden or pot plant and let nature do the rest. Don’t have a home compost? No problem! There are roughly 150 commercial compost facilities around Australia, just call your local council to provide more information on this and to see if they provide kerbside waste collection in your area.
Organic Cotton Bags
Made from 100% organic cotton, these are a little gift from us to you and the perfect replacement to plastic for placing our open products in such as Reusable Cloth Baby Wipes, Reusable Cloth Nappy Inserts, Cloth Nappy Boosters, Trifolds Nappy Inserts and Reusable Microfleece Liners. Not only are they cute to look at, but they are completely reusable (great for food shopping)!
Biodegradable Tape
Unfortunately used sticky tape can’t be reused, and because of this it ends up piling up in landfills where it won’t break down for hundreds of years. We use biodegradable sticky tape which should only be disposed of in a landfill environment. It breaks down 90% faster (1-10 years) than your average plastic tape and turns into organic matter with no microplastics. It is also BMP (Biochemical-Methane Potential) safe which means even without limited oxygen and limited light it can still be digested by microorganisms. When you are ready to dispose of your tape, just place it in your general bin or recycle it along with other soft plastics through organisations such as RedCycle.
Recyclable Cardboard Boxes
Our packaging boxes are made from recycled old corrugated containers (i.e. used cardboard boxes) and are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. The great thing about using recycled cardboard boxes is that it uses 90%less water and 50% less energy in the manufacturing process compared to that of new cardboard boxes. Once you no longer have use for your packaging box, it can be recycled again! Just cut it up and place it in your recycling bin for it to undergo the same recycling process as it did before.
Nappy Pack Kraft Boxes
Made completely from recycled materials, these little boxes are an eco-friendly way to package our Reusable Cloth Nappies. Designed by us for you, these boxes contain informative information on how to fit, wash and dry our cloth nappies, all printed with recycled vegetable ink! They are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved, 100% forest friendly, 100% recyclable, and 100% biodegradable, and if you have a home compost these can absolutely be added to it.
Vegetable Ink
This is the most eco-friendly and sustainable ink you can find. Created solely from vegetable oils, this ink is the best substitute for those containing petroleum (found in most inks). Not only do petroleum based inks have a negative outcome on our CO2 emissions, they also contain heavy metals which are harmful to our bodies and the environment. Vegetable ink is a renewable resource and because it is made from vegetables, is completely safe for composting.
Enviro Pallet Wrapping Tape
An absolute essential for our warehouse, created from 100% recycled polyethylene featuring 20% plant based plastic produced from sugarcane. This is what we use to wrap all our pallets together and is the best alternative to 100% plastic wrapping. Once used (and very difficult to reuse), we send it off to be recycled through specialised recycling services as opposed to being thrown away to landfills, where it can take up to 1000 years to break down. Although it does contain plastic, it is the best option we have at the moment and we will continue to search for a 100% plastic free pallet tape.
Swing Tags
The perfect finishing touch to compliment our organic cotton bags, these little tags are imprinted with vegetable ink and are made from the same recycled materials as our nappy pack kraft boxes.
Kraft Wrapping Paper
Made completely from virgin materials, this strong kraft wrapping paper is a great addition to how we package your products and is certified through the PEFC Council (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification). It is 100% recyclable, biodegradable and compostable, and pending on environmental conditions can break down in 6 months. It is a great alternative to conventional plastic wrapping such as bubble wrap which can take hundreds of years to decompose.
