Through thorough research we seek materials that are not only safe against skin but will also guarantee longevity and reduce the environmental impact of our products because all production has an environmental cost.

REPREVE®
The world's leading branded recycled fibre that is created from recycled materials such as plastic bottles and post-consumer waste. The process in turning these items into fibre begins by collecting this waste and sorting them into their categories, washing them, and then dicing them into a flake like material. This flake material then gets blended and melted, and undergoes a texturing process to turn it into sustainable fibres for textile fabrics. REPREVE® is GRS (Global Recycling Standard) certified and CSC (Scientist Certification Systems) certified.
With an estimate of 500 billion plastic bottles being used every year around the world and roughly 10 tonnes of plastic being thrown into our oceans, we can feel better knowing our mindful choice in using REPREVE® Unifi, Inc. is helping to reduce our products' environmental impact.

Reborn
Similar to Repreve, this fabric is created through post-consumer plastic bottles that undergo filtering, crushing and melting, and are then put through a spinning process in which the fibres are drawn out and twisted together to form a continuing thread (pretty cool huh!). Reborn is GRS certified (Global Recycling Standard) and Oeko-Tex certified.

Silicone
Silicone is the perfect plastic alternative! Made with silica (sand), oxygen, carbon and hydrogen, this material as rubber is non toxic, hypoallergenic and stain-resistant. Our silicone is 100% Food Grade Silicone and FDA (Food & Drug Administration) approved, meaning it doesn't contain any nasty plastic fillers which are found in generic silicone. Although it’s not biodegradable, silicone rubber is completely sustainable (lasting decades), and once there is no more use for it with you, it can be recycled through our Recycling program! 100% BPA Free, easy to clean, dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe, and durable with extreme temperatures, these are some of many reasons why we love silicone as an alternative to plastic.

Materials Certifications
OEKO-TEX®
This is a certification system recognized globally to test fabrics and textiles for harmful substances so that it is safe for human use. To obtain this certification, the fabrics and textiles will undergo extensive testing for more than 100 known substances that pose a threat to us and our planet to ensure all is clean. Choosing to certify our fabrics through OEKO-TEX® provides us with a peace of mind in knowing our customers are receiving products that are safe and sustainable.

Similar to Oeko Tex, GOTS is a globally recognized certification for organic textiles. It focuses not only on guaranteeing chemical free fibres, but also on maintaining high level environmental and social criterias from organic farming to ethical manufacturing.
